Perambulations around the Guru Disciple Relationship

Since the beginning of existence, humanity has been blessed with the presence of those who have protected it against the depredations, natural and self-made, of time. Such teachers to humanity take on the role of a guru and often serve as a guide in man’s journey from the darkness of ignorance to his destined fulfillment in the enlightenment of wisdom. Indeed, the term Guru refers etymologically to one who leads us from ignorance to wisdom.
The Guru is, in fact, more than a spiritual guide; he is also divine in nature and serves as a bridge for humanity to cross over the waters of samsara. The Guru navigates us through the choppy waters of a lifetime dictated by the currents of the past. The crossing over from this shore to the Other Shore involves such intricate matters as individual and mass karmas, willingness and stubbornness, discipline and sadhana, and trust, hope and doubt. It is, therefore, God, himself, that is manifested in the form of the Guru.
