Amarananda Bhairavan
Yantras are specific geometric designs that represent aspects of the Supreme Divine identified as deities in the Hindu pantheon. Yantras define a mystic field or space into which these abstract beings manifest their benevolent presence. Thus yantras are dwelling spaces of aspects of the manifested divine.
Yantra, in its most primitive sense, means a contraption, mechanical device, or contrivance. A mechanical device performs a specialized function. To carry out this function, energy must be channeled into this device. For example, a mechanical watch keeps time. Muscular energy imparted into the crown of the watch winds up a spring. The spring in turn catches this movement as potential energy. When this energy is released it flows as a trickle through the various parts of the watch keeping time for a few days.
