Swami Ananda Tirtha had a thick, neat bundle of crisp new 20 rupee notes in his hand. He was chatting amiably with Swamis Janardanananda and Haribrahmendrananda Tirtha in the courtyard of the Punjab Sindh Kshetra. A very long line of orange clad sannyasis, both male and female, had already gathered there. A calm atmosphere pervaded the quiet bustle. The sadhus and sannyasis were there for a special feast, or bandhara, arranged to celebrate Swami Ananda Tirtha’s renunciation of the world and entrance into the ranks of renunciates. When the date of the bandhara had been determined an announcement had been posted on the kshetra’s notice board, only a few days prior to the feeding. The word spread very quickly and all the sadhus arrived with their tiffin carriers ready to be filled.
